What can I expect from a private appointment?

We will begin by taking your medical history, assessing individual symptoms and observing or palpating different areas of your body that are useful to form a diagnosis. We will put together an individual treatment plan and decide which combination of points is right for your whole body as well as your symptoms.

Sometimes acupuncture needles are inserted for just a second or two, or you may be left to rest for a while before the needles are removed. The needles are so fine that most people don’t feel them being inserted, but it is normal to feel a mild tingle or dull ache. Many people feel deeply relaxed during the treatment.

What about treatment or medications I am on - is it safe do have acupuncture alongside?

Absolutely. Acupuncture is non-invasive and won’t affect any treatment you are undergoing. In fact, acupuncture can be helpful for some of the side effects, such as anti-depressants.

How many treatments do I need?

This is a tricky to say as it varies from person to person and depends on your condition and how you respond. Some people respond very quickly and see changes straight away, whilst others rely on the commutative effect of acupuncture. Either way, nearly everyone feels some positive effects from acupuncture in one way or another even after the first session. Usually we start with 2-4 regular sessions at the beginning to allow your body to adapt and build on the previous session.

How does the community programme work?

This is a mix between a class and a treatment alongside 3-5 other people. There will be some gentle Qi Gong movements to follow, examples of some relevant acupressure points to use back home and of course, some acupuncture. The emphasis is on emotional wellbeing, so expect a focus on calming needles and stress relieving movements.
